The Science Behind Our Smart Formulations

Antarcticine ® - glycoprotein from the Antarctic Sea with cryoprotective, restructuring, and antiwrinkle properties, helps the skin retain water, preventing cutaneous dryness, stimulates fibroblast adhesion and keratinocyte growth, regenerating tissues and enabling faster healing of wounds. Increases collagen type I and IV, as well as elastin, resulting in restructured skin and a reduction in wrinkles, reduces the depth of wrinkles, especially on the forehead and around the eyes.

In vitro efficacy

  1. CRYOPROTECTIVE EFFECT

Cryoprotection of bilayer lipid membranes antarcticine® marine ingredient showed a protective activity at a concentration of 1%.

During freezing, the intracellular water molecules form crystals that can damage cellular membranes. To test the cryoprotective activity of antarcticine® marine ingredient , the release of fluorescence by liposomes CF (containing carboxyfluorescein) treated with 100 μL of a solution with 1% of the active, was measured, after they were frozen and defrosted.

  1. PROTEIN SYNTHESIS INDUCTION
  • Type I collagen

34% increase of collagen I synthesis with antarcticine® marine ingredient at 0.1 mg/mL

Collagen I induction after 48 h incubation with antarcticine® marine ingredient concentrate was evaluated by an ELISA assay on human dermal fibroblasts. Absorbance readings were processed and type I collagen concentrations were obtained using a standard curve. The percentage of induction with respect to control was calculated.

  • Type IV collagen

Type IV collagen is induced when cells are treated with antarcticine® marine ingredient

Type IV collagen was detected by immunochemistry using a specific monoclonal antibody, in HEK on a feeder layer of 3T3 fibroblasts treated with 1 mg/mL of a cream* containing 5% antarcticine® marine ingredient. The results were analysed and evaluated by densitometry.

  • Elastin

antarcticine® marine ingredient also enhances elastin synthesis

In HEK on a feeder layer of 3T3 fibroblasts, 1 mg/mL of a cream* containing 5% antarcticine® marine ingredient induced elastin production, detected by immunochemistry using a specific monoclonal antibody. The results were analysed and evaluated by densitometry.

In vivo efficacy

1. EFFICACY AGAINST WRINKLES AND COLD WEATHER

20 female volunteers (35-60 years old) applied a cream with 1% antarcticine® marine ingredient C and a placebo cream on half face, twice a day for 30 days. They spent an hour a day outdoors under cold weather.

Hydration and TEWL

14.8% hydration increase and 14.7% TEWL reduction under cold conditions

Hydration was evaluated by means of a corneometer, while the transepidermal water loss (TEWL) was determined by a tewameter.

• Overall elasticity and firmness

A more toned and compact skin R0 decreased by 9.2%, while R2 increased by 6.1% after 30 days.

The tensor effect on the skin was assessed by measuring the overall elasticity (R2) and maximal deformation (R0) parameters through a cutometer.

• Erythema index

4.3% decrease in skin redness after 15 days

A mexameter was used to evaluate the effect of the irritant cold environment.

• Skin profilometry

Wrinkle depth reduction of 10.6% and volume of 9.3%

Wrinkle parameters were assessed by means of a 3D scanner based on structured light projection.

2. ANTI-WRINKLE EFFECT

The depth of wrinkles decreased an average of 44%

A cream* containing 5% antarcticine® marine ingredient was applied around the eyes of a group of 10 female volunteers, twice daily for 30 days. Evaluation of the micro surface of the skin before and after the treatment was performed through silicon imprints measured by confocal laser scanning microscopy.

ReneseedTM contains plant-Transforming Growth Factor Beta-2 (plant-TGFl32). the seed of youth of our skin, as it is implicated in the extracellular matrix protein synthesis and the production of epidermal lipids. improving the skin integrity and protection. It has a retinol and retinoic acid-like activity in terms of collagen I production efficacy

A well-balanced TGFb32 signaling is essential to sustain the skin in a healthy and functional condition and overall to support maintenance of a young appearance. However. the aging process on the skin induced by internal and external factors (photoaging. hormonal aging. smoke. diet, stress) affects TGF132 levels. and therefore its activity

20 women (45-65 years old) applied o cream with 2% Reneseed'• on half face, twice daily for 28 days. A placebo was applied on the other half of the face

1. WRINKLE SMOOTHING

-16%, -11% and -14% wrinkle count, volume and depth, respectively, in 28 days

Up to 42%, 31% and 37% decrease in wrinkle count, volume and depth, respectively, in 28 days

2. SKIN INTEGRITY IMPROVEMENT (EPIDERMAL LIPIDS)

 Up-regulation of ABCA12, K1, ALOXE3, CERS1, PNPLA1

and FLG gene improving the skin integrity & protection
